Durability: B (Unless Abused) Programming: C- Installation: B- Toshiba Analog EKT telephones:
EKT-6510H, EKT-6510S, EKT-6520S, EKT-6520SD There is a wide range of Toshiba analog EKT telephones. Over the years, the look of the phones changed quite a bit but the inner workings did not. All the EKT phones work on all the Toshiba analog systems and even on the newer digital systems with the proper station cards. Most of the older Toshiba EKT and Harris Lanier phones such as the 5000 and 3000 series have been replaced. There are still quite a few 6000 series Toshiba analog phones. The biggest problem we see with the Toshiba EKT phones is from abuse. The main circuit boards are thin and single sided and do not stand up well to angry people punching them. They can also break from shipping damage if not enough packing material is used, or from dropping, etc... The main board gets a crack in it and breaks circuit board tracings. Sometimes we can repair the tracings by running jumper wires but often times the cracks are large and break dozens of tiny connections. Even after repair you have to worry about the cracks becoming larger and adding strength support is not always possible. The Toshiba analog business phones are getting old at this point. One problem we see frequently is the transformer going bad and stopping all talk path. We also see a lot of bad solder connections where the heavier components have had many years to wiggle and crack the solder on the single sided circuit boards. Toshiba phones also had a shadow called Harris Lanier. Harris Lanier made copies of the Toshiba phones, some looked exactly the same, some were slightly different but they all worked just the same. Recently, the Harris Lanier copies are exactly the same except for the color of, and the name printed on, the plastic housing. Harris Lanier phones were not available in dark charcoal like the Toshiba phones but a light gray color instead.
