From our
experience:
US Mail is the best choice when you combine
price, speed and safe handling.
Tracking and insurance is a bit more difficult for those who are not set up.
However, US mail has not lost one single package we have sent in the last 10
years and they treat their packages much better than UPS. You still should
package your equipment properly!
UPS handles a lot of packages and they do a good
job. With UPS you need to make sure your items are packaged correctly! Your
3 pound box may be followed down the long shoot by a 60 pounder! Pack your
items like you are wrapping a carton of eggs to toss at a brick wall.
Even if you are sending broken equipment to us
for repair, it can easily become unrepairable or even just scuffed and
scratched if poorly packaged. Insurance claims are void and rejected for
items that are not packaged to high standards!
Do not use bags or envelopes to
ship your equipment.
Use good sturdy boxes, not a
thin shoe box.
Use plenty of padding.
-
Bubble wrap and packing peanuts are best.
-
Double boxing is very good.
-
Newspaper provides very little padding or support.
-
Put shredded paper in a sealed bag to improve padding and keep dust away
from your items.
New boxes are available at
office supply stores, post office & shipping centers. Home Depot has
large boxes for moving.
