Buy Refurbished Executone IDS phones

The IDS was the first digital phone system for both Isoetec and Executone. Executone purchased Isoetec soon after they started making the digital IDS phones and took over production. They later added the "model" line of phones including the Model 12 (M12), Model 18 (M18), Model 32 (M32) with LCD, and the Model 64 (M64) with a larger LCD and 3 soft keys that change function and are displayed on the bottom line of the LCD.

The original IDS phones had a problem with the buttons becoming hard to push with age. They are metal contact dome switches encased in a plastic housing. The metal parts that touched build up oxidation and loose conductivity over a period of 5 years or so. Later designs changed over to a soft touch button that is actually a rubber membrane with a conductive rubber pill encased in a plastic housing. Unfortunately, the new button design did not last any longer then the original. The rubber pill quality was not very good and oxidation built up on the metal parts the rubber pill comes in contact with. We designed a replacement cap where the original rubber part of the switch is removed and the new cap goes over the remaining part effectively replacing the old rubber pill with a new and much better quality one.

One very common and confusing problem with the IDS phones is what we call "christmas tree" where the LEDs all flash erratically and the displays will garble, you will sometimes also notice loud static bursts. This is usually caused by poor connections from the phone to the control unit. It can be a bad connection in the phone line jack, a poor quality line cord, a bad link at the punch down block, or a bad connection, wire, cord, etc.. in many different places along the way. The tricky part is that all phones are not created equal. Tiny variations in the tolerance range of each phone can make a big difference! And the Executone IDS phones are very picky compared to most business phone systems. One phone may seem broken because all others work at that location when it really is working just as it was designed but just a little pickier then most. Also, each line cord and each line jack touches in slightly different spots and we have seen plenty of cases where one phone will not work with one line cord but there is nothing wrong with the phone! To complicate matters even more, there are many different designs of Executone phones that look identical, there are many different IDS station cards that all work slightly different. Some Executone station cards were specifically designed for long run wires, some for short, etc..
