Barclay's Web Advertisement Permanent Record Graveyard

Panasonic or Barclay did not re-design the keypad. These advertisements refer to the OEM keypad.
Panasonic originally warranted your handset for one year. But with our technical expertise and resources, we're able to provide a TWO YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY on the brand new keypad we install:

BARCLAY'S TWO YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY
We'll repair or replace the defective keypad free of charge and pay for shipping your handset back to you for two years from the date of repair.
(Excludes customer abuse.)

Manufactured to the very best of Panasonic's specifications, thus eliminating any possible shortcomings of the original version.

Our comments:

"with our technical expertise and resources, we're able to provide a TWO YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY"
The conductive carbon pills are too small on the original keypads. The only way to fix this problem is to increase the size of the conductive pills. No amount of knowledge or experience can change this fact. Conductive paint or epoxy coating cannot increase the size of the pill. No glue or adhesive will permanently stick to the flexible rubber keypad. You cannot change the size of the pill on the original keypad and at the time they did not have anything other than the original keypad.

"(Excludes customer abuse.)"
We have repaired many thousands of these phones and not one single keypad has broken from abuse. We highly suspect Barclay includes exclusions like "abuse" and "environmental gunk" to give themselves a back door when your keypad breaks again because they KNOW this is going to happen. They have been providing a "failure prevention guide" that explains how the keypads break from people eating and drinking while talking on the phone. This is completely false! We have seen absolutely no signs of food, drink or "spittle" in bad keypads. The oily substance that is found in these keypads comes from the original keypad itself! It is NOT a water based material and could not have come from the human mouth. The oil is a by-product from the keypad manufacturing when rubber keypads are not dried long enough in the baking process. Follow this link for an engineering forum on the topic.

"Manufactured to the very best of Panasonic's specifications, thus eliminating any possible shortcomings of the original version. "
The shortcomings are obvious. The 4mm diameter carbon pills are far too small. Barclay's keypads are the original and still have the 4mm diameter pills. The part number printed on the keypads has not changed. There is no reason to think these keypads have been improved or changed in any way.

Barclay's hidden warranty exclusions: If your handset ever fails --- even if it's just one button --- send it to us for no-charge warranty repair. As long as the warranty hasn't been voided (dropped, liquid spill, buildup of environmental "gunk"), we'll repair and return your handset and we'll even pay for return shipping!

techguy5597 old eBay auctions

Barclay is now very careful about what he puts in his auctions
Typically any suspicious text is placed in pictures so he can change it any time.
There are still a few of his old auctions available to look at.
You can still see their illegal "FCC authorized repair" claims.

We're also the country's ONLY independent cordless telephone repair facility to be authorized by the FCC

Every handset gets a BRAND NEW KEYPAD manufactured to the best of Panasonics specifications, thus eliminating anyh possible shortcomings of the original version.

Two year warranty on keypad failure --- covers ALL buttons --- not just a select few! --- as well as the entire membrane from splitting and cracking.  Naturally excludes failure due to user damage, liquids & other foreign matter.

We are the only repair facility on eBay authorized by the FCC to work on your telephone equipment.
What does this mean, and why is it important to you?

  • FCC authorized repair facility... so you know your handset will be repaired and reconditioned to the highest professional level. Thousands of these models repaired spanning nearly two decades.

  • We are the only firm on Ebay authorized by the FCC to work on your telephone equipment..

Question- It says your FCC authorized, what does that mean, and is it required?  Answer: We were required to become registered and authorized with the FCC to provide our services to telephone companies such as GTE, Pacific Bell, Contel, and many others.  We still provide these services to many telephone companies nationwide, but with the advent of the web, we could now reach the public in a cost effective manner. This authorization is not required to work on your phones, but necessary bcause of the higher quality and process standards large telephone companies require. By comparison, would you rather have an ASE Certified mechanic work on your car, or someone with no stamp of approval doing the same kind of work out of his home?

NO NEW TONE PAD FAILURES SINCE WE BEGAN SERVICING THESE MODELS OVER TWO YEARS AGO!

    90 day warranty.

Question: How do you know about the failure rate over 2 years when you were just offering a 90 day warranty back then? We've seen plenty of your keypads fail in much LESS than 2 years.

Here is where they almost become honest about their role with the FCC
This lasted about 2 weeks after we told them we would report them to the FTC and FCC for false advertising. This proves they knew what they were claiming was a complete lie.

We're the only independent cordless telephone repair facility on eBay to have ever been registered with the FCC for telephone remanufacturing.

    Repair includes:

DIM / CRACKED OR DEAD LCD DISPLAY*, BROKEN ANTENNA*

    * Price doesn't include replacing unrepairable LCD display, antenna

This is very interesting.... repair includes replacing Dim, cracked and dead LCD displays but later excludes unrepairable LCDs?? Dim and cracked are always unrepairable... What's even more interesting is in later auctions they change this very text into graphics but leave the surrounding area as text. Why? because it's a trick and all their tricks are now graphics so they can permanently remove them from eBay at any time.

     This is typical Barclay
Before we offer repair on eBay
$35 bench fee and you pay for shipping

(Claiming a 99 out of 100 success rate.)

After we start offering repair service on eBay

    Before

Customer will be notified of their condition via email and unit will be returned and a paypal refund issued minus the $35.00 bench fee. Shipping and handling is not refundable. We will not contact you to explain the damage in detail, but this will be noted as "uneconomical for repair" on your paypal refund.

    KEYPAD WARRANTY

OUR EXTENDED TWO YEAR KEYPAD WARRANTY

Panasonic originally warranted your handset for one year. But with our technical expertise and resources, we're able to provide a TWO YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY on the brand new keypad we install:

    BARCLAY'S TWO YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY
We'll repair or replace the defective keypad free of charge and pay for shipping your handset back to you for two years from the date of repair.
    (Excludes customer abuse.)

    THE COMPETITION'S "LIFETIME WARRANTY"

"Lifetime" warranties are always suspicious, particularly when they involve something that's bound to eventually wear out! Beware of anyone offering a "lifetime warranty" on a keypad! It is a misleading promise that has nothing to do with "lifetime", and it is intended to lure you in. Read the fine print of their keypad warranty... you'll be surprised to see what you're really getting!

BOTTOM LINE: You're better off dealing with a reputable company that's upfront and will be around to honor their two year warranty than someone who desperately attempts to gull you with a bogus "lifetime warranty"!

WHAT ABOUT THE KEYPAD ITSELF... BRAND NEW vs "IMPROVED"?

    OUR KEYPAD:

At Barclay, we replace your old keypad with a flawless, brand new keypad.

bullet Manufactured to the very best of Panasonic's specifications, thus eliminating any possible shortcomings of the original version.

bullet Functions perfectly by itself ... just as it should. Doesn't require the addition of any supplemental inserts / membranes / tabs or other "fixes" that can permanently damage your circuit board!

    THE COMPETITION'S ALLEGED "IMPROVED KEYPAD"

Remember, the same people who represent their cobbled together "keypad membrane" as an "improved" keypad are the same folks who are trying to entice you with their mythical "lifetime" warranty!

For some reason, they are compelled to shore up their keypads with membranes, tabs and who knows what else. They try to present this as an "improvement"... but they're really just turning your handset in "Franken-Phone".

Don't let anyone turn your Panasonic cordless handset into

    Franken-phone

    Barclay Enterprises Franken-Phone

with a patched together keypad replacement or "repair"!

As everyone knows, Dr. Frankenstein's monster was a pieced together mess. And unfortunately, there are people calling themselves professional telephone "refurbishers" who'll do the same to your Panasonic KX-TGA cordless handset, particularly when it comes to "repairing" or replacing your keypad. Not only is the result inferior performance... it can actually damage your handset beyond any further repair! If you're not sure what the keypad is or why it's important, click here.

At Barclay, we replace your old keypad with a flawless, brand new keypad.

bullet Manufactured to the very best of Panasonic's specifications, thus eliminating any possible shortcomings of the original version.

bullet Functions perfectly by itself ... just as it should. Doesn't require the addition of any supplemental inserts / membranes or other "fixes" that can permanently damage your circuit board! (Details below)

    bullet

Accept nothing less than a brand new keypad!

    bullet

Don't let anyone "recycle" your old keypad, whether it's "repairing" it with glue, paint or a supplemental membrane between your old keypad and the circuit board.  A RETREAD IS NEVER AS GOOD AS A BRAND NEW TIRE.

    bullet

Any attempt to modify your old keypad can't mend cracks or tears (seen or unseen), and you'll still have a worn, tired looking keypad with buttons that will continue to lose their flexibility.

bullet Don't let anyone install an allegedly "new" keypad with any sort of insert / membrane or other "fix" between the keypad and circuit board!

bullet A truly new, "A grade"  keypad doesn't need to be supplemented. Don't settle for factory seconds or manufacturer's rejects!

bullet Any foreign layer or "fix" between the keypad and the circuit board will do one of two things, and both are bad:

bullet If the foreign conductive surface is weaker than the keypad's, then it will wear away faster and your handset will actually fail earlier than if just the keypad alone had been installed!

bullet If the foreign conductive surface is stronger than the originally specified keypad's, then you risk abrading the delicate conductive layer on the circuit board. Panasonic manufactured its circuit boards specifically to withstand the soft conductive layer of their specific keypad --- and nothing more! Once a contact on your circuit board has worn away --- even if it's just for one button --- your handset is ruined. You can always have a keypad replaced, but you can never replace the circuit board. They are no longer available!

Why is the keypad so important? All the buttons on your handset are part of a one-piece rubbery component --- the keypad. The keypad rests on top of the circuit board --- a thin wafer with delicate contacts matching the keypad. When you push a particular button, the conductive layer on the bottom makes contact with the surface of the circuit board to complete a circuit... sending the proper signal to the handset's "brain" for dialing. The keypad works in conjunction with the circuit board. Your keypad will fail if the conductive layer of a button wears away (e.g., the "1" button), or if gunk migrates between the keypad and the circuit board.
